Keight MacLean

Oils/Acrylic, UNTAPPED Emerging Artists, Booth U-8

Born in small town Ontario, Keight MacLean is a Toronto based painter, an alumna of OCAD University and the school's Florence Program. Intrigued by our connection to the distant past, Keight's work combines elements of Baroque and Renaissance painting with modern techniques. Having studied in Florence, Italy, Keight has spent intimate time observing the Old Masters' work first hand and brings much of their influence to her own paintings. Working with experimental, often destructive techniques, Keight pushes the contrast between the imagery and the object of the painting itself, incorporating spray paint, cracks, cuts and drips into the traditional portraits. Keight's work addresses many issues, but returns often to subjects of historical and modern women's issues.
